Why is it so important to learn a new language?

Communication is an integral part of human life since the beginning of time. That is why languages are also one of the foremost things in history. They evolved with humans, which I think clearly shows that they are a part of us. Besides acquiring a language when we first open our eyes to the world, -which actually starts even before that- it is a privilege to learn a new language in so many ways.

Most of us already know that the more you know different languages, the easier it will get to find a job. According to studies, employees who speak more than one language stand out. Likewise, it is easier for them to switch careers later. Just like that, learning a new language is also a plus for academic life. I'm going to give an example from myself, it was easier to get into university thanks to my second language, English. The fact that I now know a different language changed my whole perspective on life and added so many things to my goals, helping me make a few true.
Learning a new language also gives you a chance to enhance your knowledge of other cultures, while helping you to meet new people. Knowing different cultures plays a big part when it comes to knowing your own culture and criticizing it. Like I said before, it gives you a whole new perspective, and you start to look at things in a way that you never would have looked. It makes it easier to travel to new places which means knowing new people. Connecting is crucial for us, humans. Knowing different languages means knowing different people who speak that language. Think about it, your soulmate might be living in the other side of the world, speaking a different language!
Last, but not least, it turned out that learning a new language improves your memory. All that vocabulary and grammatical rules you manage to keep in mind are not just standing there, they help making your brain stronger and smarter than before! According to The Newyork Times, "Being bilingual, it turns out, makes you smarter. It can have a profound effect on your brain, improving cognitive skills not related to language and even shielding against dementia in old age." (Why bilinguals are smarter, 2012)
Here we read just a few benefits of learning a new language, imagine how many you will find out if you keep googling it! Also a quick reminder, knowing different languages boosts your confidence! In the times people are constantly trying to improve themselves, and learning a new language helps you reach that goal in a fun and interesting way. The more you learn about languages, the more you will be seeking more, I promise.
